According to TechCrunch on demand delivery provider Postmates have received over $30 million in funding from Spark Capital. Postmates are looking to expand their on demand delivery services to more markets which allows consumers to select products from a number of connected stores and lets Postmates handle the delivery locally for a small fee. Postmates delivery fee starts at $5 and increases based on distance and “the capacity of the platform,” in addition to a 9 percent service fee that is applied to the purchase price. Home delivery of restaurant orders isn't a new idea by any stretch of the imagination but it appears that Uber are keen to experiment with the concept to see whether the market has space for rebranded services which somewhat explains the trial of UberEATS initally in Barcelona, Spain. Having dined in Barcelona and spent late hours enjoying the cities restaurants I'm not sure that it's the ideal market but we'll have to wait and see. Per the article - Uber has teamed up with Plateselector, a Barcelona-based food guide, and is working with "the best local restaurants in Barcelona to create a changing selection of lunch and dinner meals that you can receive in under ten minutes," the company wrote. While drone delivery services seem unlikely to receive FAA approval in the US it shouldn't be a surprise to learn that in Dubai the drone delivery market is poised to take off (apologies) over the next few years.
