The same day delivery market is expanding rapidly in 2015 and analysts suggest this is poised to accelerate over the coming years. For retailers the importance of grabbing a portion of the same day and on demand delivery audience appears to be of growing importance and while we've seen many companies expand services and options already this year word reaches us today about another acquisition that could be significant.
We previously wrote about Seattle based express delivery startup Deliv back in October and looked at their retail partnerships in various cities. They have now purchased WeDeliver a company that offers similar services in Chicago, one of the nation's largest consumer markets.
At present Deliv has a roster of more than 250 national retailers, including Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Williams-Sonoma and Foot Locker and focus same day shipping services from shopping mall collection points. To date their focus has been on San Franciso, Seattle, Los Angeles, Washington and Houston so the additional representation in Chicago seems a logical next step.
Chicago will be a brave new market for Deliv and it probably speaks volumes that the founder and CEO of WeDeliver Jimmy Odom is staying in place to help with the expansion in this new market. As ever, the questions seem less about demand and more about pricing point with Deliv having established a flat $5 fee for same day deliveries up to this point in time. More details are sure to emerge but it's certainly an acquisition to keep an eye on.
At SameDayDelivery.com we focus on same day trucking or air for commercial and industrial freight typically in the business-to-business sector but keep an active watch on the diverse and rapidly changing same day market for retailers.
